Graphic Means
Documentary about the history of graphic design, and how computers changed the scene entirely.
Role: Storyboarding, Concept/Design Assist, Title Intro, Animated Infographics, Interstitials.
Challenge
Graphic Means is a documentary about graphic design before the advent of the computer. I was tasked with creating an introduction for the look and feel of this era, as well as explaining obsolete design processes.
Process
The opening scene shows a hand using Letraset, an old way of transferring letters onto a page, revealing the film’s title. We also pulled from archival imagery to create a sort of collage look for the remainder of the opening, showing actual tools and machines used.
For the inforaphics we used hand drawings to tie in the manual way things are done. Most of these processes were involved and needed to be made digestible, so we broke them up in between talking head interviews.
